ESC at RSD14

ESC was part of the Relating Systems Thinking and Design Symposium (RSD14). This year’s edition, themed “Arcs of Impact”, took place in Toronto, Canada. We explored relationality in complexity, a core concept within systemic design, where transformation emerges through situated, relational engagement.

We especially enjoyed the keynote by Melanie Goodchild and the city of Toronto itself, drawing inspiration from their strong connection to land and ancestors. Food for thought.

It was valuable to share our experiences and connect with others exploring systemic co-design and network building. We contributed with three papers and two book presentations:

  • The Analogy of Orchestration: Systemic co-design – Christof Zürn, Remko van der Lugt, Frank Berkers, Frank Evers

  • Designers Catalysing Change: Insights from systemic co-design practices in the Netherlands – Laura Niño Cáceres Ph.D, Wina Smeenk, Dr. Liliya Terzieva, Anna de Jonge

  • Engaging Ecosystem Concepts in Bricolage: Towards a timely and relational ecosystem approach – Anja Overdiek, Celina Whitehead, Armand van Oostrom

  • ESCollab and Co-Design Canvas book presentations – Laura Niño Cáceres Ph.D and Wina Smeenk

Building international connections like these strengthens our collective capacity to apply systems thinking across contexts toward more sustainable and inclusive futures.
