How do you work creatively on systemic change together? And how can the knowledge that emerges from that process be shared, deepened, and scaled? In ESCall, ESC & Practice, designers and creative studios from the Expert Network for Systemic Co-design (ESC)present their knowledge products: card sets, games, and prototypes developed through engaging with societal challenges in practice.
This book is the result of the ESCall, a call to ESC’s creative partners to reflect on an existing knowledge product from their practice that deserves to be made explicit and holds potential for further development. The partners who participated in the ESCall support public and private organizations through creative, strategic, and co-design processes. They were invited to shape their knowledge products so that they can also be applied beyond their original context, thus contributing to a broader Systemic Co-Design (SCD) repertoire.
The publication is rich in practice stories, methods, and reflections. Each chapter offers insight into how creative professionals engage with themes that often arise in collaborations around societal issues, such as justice, polarization, or reciprocity.
ESCall, ESC & Practice is the first volume in a trilogy on the Systemic Co-Design approach, successively focusing on practice, research, and education. A must-read for designers, researchers, policymakers, educators, and changemakers looking for practical tools to address complex societal challenges.
