Navigating complex issues requires a different perspective. MissionMapping is a method in which a group visualizes their challenge in the form of a map. This makes the invisible visible and makes it easier to navigate unfamiliar territory.
Each participant in a MissionMapping workshop adds building blocks to the map. This creates an overview and reveals common ground, but also differences and other perspectives. Working on this together sparks conversations that would not otherwise take place. The approach fosters understanding, both of each other and of the system in which you operate together. And that understanding, in turn, provides a grip: you know what you need to do and can operate more effectively within the surrounding social dynamics.
By experimenting with small-scale, local interventions at different points in the system, based on the overview, movement is created. That movement in turn requires reflection in the form of sessions in which the map is updated. This means that it is not static, but forms a dynamic representation of the change that is taking place.
